About this Earthsong
Traditional Rwandan Musician Koreta Bashima plays Inanga and shares her earthsong, Akamaro K'igiti. This earthsong is a call out to Rwandans to take of care of the trees - pay heed to the role of the tree because trees create our instruments the inanga, umuduri, and the guitar!
Bashima sings in Kinyarwanda.
Inanga is a style of harp tuned on a pentatonic scale. This is considered one of Rwanda's most revered music instruments. The traditional strings were made from plant fiber and animal gut.
This video was recorded in the art studio at Red Rocks Initiative in Musanze, Rwanda on October 11, 2024 by Red Rocks Volcano Productions Director Roger Ishimwe. There was a massive rain storm during the recording and you can hear the song of weaver birds.
